PORT ANGELES — State Patrol investigators are seeking eyewitnesses to a collision on state Highway 112 that killed a bicyclist last Sunday.
Bicyclist Marian M. Byse, 65, of Port Angeles was killed when a vehicle driven by Marylan A. Thayer, 65, of the Joyce area hit her bicycle from behind at about 2 p.m., said Trooper Krista Hedstrom, spokeswoman for the State Patrol.
No charges have been filed.
“It’s still under investigation,” Hedstrom said Friday.
Although several witnesses to the collision have stepped up, State Patrol investigators hope to find more.
‘Too early to tell’
“We think we have an idea of what happened, but we would like to have more witnesses come forward, if there are any,” Hedstrom said, adding that “it’s too early to tell” what the result of the investigation will be.
“The collision memo that came out after the collision, that’s what happened,” she said.
“We want to know why it happened.
“We’re hoping we can get another witness or two to come forward.”

Both Byse and Thayer were traveling east on state Highway 112 at Elwha River Road when Thayer hit Byse, a YMCA exercise instructor, Port Angeles Senior Center volunteer and Peninsula Senior Games commissioner who often rode her bike into Port Angeles.
Byse, who was wearing a helmet and brightly colored clothing, was thrown from the bike and landed in the westbound lane.
She was transported to Olympic Medical Center and was pronounced dead about 90 minutes later.
