State lottery to film commercial at Agnew store

AGNEW — A production crew will film a television ad today for the Washington State Lottery at the Agnew Grocery & Feed store, a historic local landmark.

“We thought it would be pretty good exposure for the store,” said Chris Frankfurth, owner of the store at 2863 Old Olympic Highway, which was founded in 1926.

Frankfurth said he was approached by a scout who looked at other Dungeness Valley farm-area locations.

The store, whose friendly official greeter is Mocha, Frankfurth’s chocolate Labrador retriever, is surrounded by farm fields with an expansive view of the Olympic Mountains.

Peter Allen, Seattle location scout with Peter Allen Locations, was unavailable for comment Monday.

Frankfurth said he was trying to locate average-looking older model trucks and 4-wheel-drive vehicles for scenes in the ad, which will pay $50 for each vehicle.

“They just wanted a mid-’70s truck or Jeep Wagoneer or International Scout,” Frankfurth said, adding that he has located a couple of motorcycles for the ad but was still looking for “average looking” trucks.

He said he expects the store will be closed at times so the crew can clear the scene for filming.

It will be the third location for a lottery ad filmed in the Sequim-Dungeness Valley.

In December 2010, a production crew filmed ads in front of Pondicherri, a shop on East Washington Street in downtown Sequim, and another in a resident’s backyard nearby.

Both ads were produced with comic themes, including using bird droppings for lottery picks and a Velcro-covered man on a trampoline.
