PORT TOWNSEND — Puget Sound Express will continue providing passenger-only ferry service on the Port Townsend-Keystone route a day longer than originally expected, with the Snohomish set to take over on Friday.
The Snohomish was expected to begin serving the route today, but maintenance work on the foot ferry was extended.
“The Snohomish is still at Eagle Harbor,” Washington State Ferries’ maintenance facility on Bainbridge Island, spokeswoman Hadley Greene said Wednesday.
“It is now scheduled to come up Friday.”
Two Puget Sound Express excursion boats are providing passenger service to Whidbey Island, the Glacier Spirit and Olympas.
The 149-passenger Snohomish had been used from Dec. 13 through last Sunday to carry passengers between Port Townsend and Seattle.
The special special holiday run was to mitigate the loss of the four Steel Electric-class car ferries pulled from service because of safety concerns on Nov. 20.
