PORT TOWNSEND — Washington State Ferries officials said they are taking Tim Caldwell’s request for vehicle ferry service between Edmonds and Port Townsend seriously.
The three Jefferson County commissioners are lobbying state lawmakers to do the same.
And Caldwell, chairman of the Keystone-Port Townsend Ferry Advisory Committee, said he is just happy that people are listening.
“Everyone involved has been supportive of the idea so far,” Caldwell said.
“David Moseley, [state ferries system chief], has told me that they really are looking into the possibility.”
State ferries system spokeswoman Hadley Green said Wednesday that a passenger ferry between Port Townsend and Edmonds “is still not a viable idea.
“The rerouting of a Edmonds-to-Kingston ferry, though, is something that has been suggested recently, and it will be discussed” among ferry officials at meetings sometime next week.
