‘Stand down’ for veterans set in Forks on Thursday (and related story: Veterans outreach begins Tuesday on Peninsula)

FORKS — “Stand Down: Voices for America” will be held at the Forks Elks Lodge No. 2524, 941 Merchants Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (May 1).

Admission is free.

A “Stand Down,” open to all veterans, is a one-day operation offered three times a year: Forks on Thursday, Port Townsend on July 28 and Port Angeles on Oct. 2.

It provides direct services and connects veterans with more than 25 different organizations and local businesses all located in one place, such as medical, dental, housing, employment, benefits, counseling, haircuts, food, pet supplies, legal aid and clothing.

Veterans can ask questions and obtain resources.

Department of Veterans Affairs’ Tacoma Vet Center will deploy a Mobile Outreach Team to the North Olympic Peninsula this week.

Locations and dates:

■ Port Townsend: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday (April 29), Elks Lodge, 555 Otto St.

■ Port Angeles: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (April 30), and 9 a.m. to noon Friday (May 2), Lower Elwha Klallam Heritage Training Center, 401 E. First St.

■ Forks: 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday (May 1) , Elks Lodge, 941 Merchants Road.
