SEQUIM — Sequim High School’s boys tennis team remained undefeated by blasting archrival Port Angeles in a match that lasted two days.
The Wolves (7-0) beat the Roughriders 5-2 in a match that was suspended because of rain Monday and finished Tuesday.
“We got off to a pretty good start on Monday, but couldn’t find the same momentum [Tuesday],” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
“Sequim is a complete team from top to bottom. We forced a couple of matches in the third set but just couldn’t seem to get over the hump.”
The Riders (5-2) won No. 1 singles before the rain hit Monday and eventually took No. 3 doubles but everything else went Sequim’s way.
Micah Roos of Port Angeles held off Mallory Maloney 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Luis Neumeir and Nels Winn of Port Angeles won a close 7-6, 5-7, 6-3 match at No. 3 doubles against Donavan Lee and Andrew Gunstone.
“While Roos was very impressive in his straight-sets win, the Riders of the match were Neumeir and Winn,” Gundersen said.
“Neumeir and Winn haven’t spent a lot of time playing together, but it was tough to tell, based on how they played.”
Sequim captured No. 2 and 3 singles as well as the top two doubles matches and No. 4 doubles.
The Wolves had some great comebacks Tuesday as Joe Puntenney won No. 2 singles 5-7, 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 2 doubles team of Byron Boots and Waylon Lam won 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
Sequim dominated the other two matches as David Richards won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Reed Gunstone and Michael Lee won 6-2, 6-1.
“We played better [Tuesday] than we did Monday,” Sequim coach Mark Textor said.
“It was a really good match. Port Angeles has a strong program and they are well coached. This was our toughest match of the year so far.”
Last Friday, Sequim shut out Bremerton 7-0.
Reed Gunstone beat An Ho 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles while Maloney and Joe Puntenney also won their singles competition.
Michael Lee and Byron Boots claimed No. 1 doubles by the score of 6-3, 6-1 while David Richards and Waylon Lam took No. 2, Lee and Andrew Gunstone won No. 3 and Evan Hill and Kelvin Li captured No. 4 in doubles competition.
Meanwhile, Port Angeles tied for third place with Central Kitsap with 25 points in the Boys Fall Tennis Invitational at South Kitsap in Port Orchard on Saturday.
Mountain View of Vancouver, Wash., won the tourney with 38 points and host South Kitsap was second.
“Given the level of competition, I was extremely pleased with a third-place finish,” Gundersen said. “Our guys competed against players from 4A schools and more than held their own.”
Hayden McCartney was second at No. 2 singles as well as the No. 2 doubles team of Derek Crain and Sam Beasely.
Roos was fourth at No. 1 singles as well as the No. 4 doubles team of Michael and Marcus Konopaski. Connor Reid and AJ Konopaski were fifth at No. 1 doubles while Tavish Casey and Luis Neumeir were sixth at No. 3 doubles.
The Riders next host Kingston today while the Wolves travel to Olympic in Silverdale as both teams continue Olympic League play.
Football Crescent 67, Clallam Bay 18
CLALLAM BAY — The Loggers (3-1, all nonleague) gave a clinic against the shorthanded Bruins (0-1), who played their first game of the year Monday night.
Crescent scored on three of its first four offensive plays and was off to the races.
“We were able to play our young guys a lot,” Crescent coach Tim Rooney said.
The Loggers mainly stayed on the ground, earning 536 rushing yards.
Marcus Decker rushed seven times for 236 yards and had three touchdowns while Dylen Heaward had 155 yards on five rushes and had four touchdowns.
Eric Larson was in the rushing mix, too, with 125 yards on 12 rushes and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Larson had 12 tackles and caused a fumble while Heaward also had 12 tackls and he got to the quarterback for a sack.
The Loggers next host Evergreen Lutheran on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Girls Soccer Port Angeles 7, North Mason 0
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles continued to impress as they dropped the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
Abbie Moseley added a hat trick to her growing goal total and sister Kathryn scored once and had two assists.
Paxton Rodocker was active on offense as well, scoring a goal and assisting on another for the Riders (2-2, 4-3).
Rodocker and Chelsea Rice were named defensive players of the match by Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley.
Elise Reid stopped two shots for her second shutout of the year.
Port Angeles visits Klahowya on Thursday.

Volleyball Port Angeles 3, North Mason 1
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles stopped a two-game Olympic League losing streak with a solid win over North Mason, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19 on Tuesday.
Kiah Jones had 10 kills, three blocks and 13 digs to help the Riders cause.
Danielle Rutherford had nine kills, Emily Drake chipped in with 30 assists and Emily Cook had seven blocks for Port Angeles.
Darien Foley had four aces to lead the Riders service attack.
Port Angeles (2-2, 5-2) visits Klahowya on Thursday.
Rochester 3, Forks 0
ROCHESTER — The Spartans (3-2, 3-3) struggled on the road in the Southwest Washington League match Tuesday night.
Rochester won 25-19, 25-14, 25-13.
Gwen Gillet had four kills for Forks while Paige Kennedy and Cheryl Moore had three kills each. Kennedy and Hailey Horton had a stuff each.
Taylor Ingram gave out 11 assists.
The Spartans next play at Onalaska on Thursday.
