PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles volleyball team slipped at home against North Kitsap in Tuesday’s Olympic League match, falling in three games, 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.

The loss knocked the Roughriders (1-1 in league, 4-1 overall) from the ranks of the unbeaten

“The scores don’t really indicate it, but we actually played very well,” Riders coach Christine Halberg said. “We played with them pretty consistently in all three matches, but they had a few runs and they make every ball playable.”

Emily Cook led Port Angeles with seven kills and three blocks. Kiah Jones added four kills, Chloe Johnston had 11 digs and Lauren Coventon added eight digs.

Emily Drake chipped in with 14 assists and Darian Foley had four aces.

Port Angeles looks to get back on the winning track on Thursday at Olympic.

Sequim 3, Kingston 0

SEQUIM — The Wolves (3-0, 4-1) made quick work of the Buccaneers in Tuesday’s Olympic League match, 25-16, 25-12, 25-19.

Sequim’s Taylor Balkan was a perfect 15-for-15 from the service line with two aces, six assists and two digs in the win.

Teammate Maddy Zbaraschuk had seven kills and four digs and Sierra Clark had nine digs. Caitlin Pallai added five kills, four aces and three blocks.

The Wolves head to Port Townsend on Thursday.

Forks 3, Rainier 1

RAINIER — The Spartans made the long trip to Rainier and came away with a 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17 win on Tuesday.

Paige Kennedy led Forks (2-1, 2-2) with seven kills, Raven McCann added five and Gwen Gillet four for the Spartans. Taylor Ingram served up 24 assists for Forks.

Forks hosts Winlock on Thursday.

Neah Bay 3, Taholah 1

TAHOLAH — Neah Bay (4-0) shook off a slow start to win in four games 23-25, 25-13, 25-7, 25-16.

“We started pretty sluggish, and it was kind of warm down there today, but they figured it out and did just fine,” Red Devils coach Chon Clayton said.

Neah Bay (4-0) visits Clallam Bay next Tuesday.

N. Sound Christ. 3, Crescent 0

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The young Loggers fell to No. 7 North Sound Christian 26-24, 25-12, 25-20 on Tuesday.

“We played a very skilled team, one of the best teams I have seen at this level of play,” Crescent coach Alex Baker said.

Baker praised the play of freshmen Rebecca Bowen and Jandi Franz.

“They really were standouts in a match where we struggled to find ourselves.”

Clallam Bay 3, Lake Quinault 1

LAKE QUINAULT — The Bruins (4-0) remained perfect with a 25-15, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17 nonleague win on Tuesday night.

Sarah Reeves led Clallam Bay with seven kills and one block, while Melissa Willis added six blocks and one ace and Courtney Willis three kills.

Clallam Bay hosts Tahola on Thursday night.

Girls Soccer

North Kitsap 6, Port Angeles 2

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles lost to a tough North Kitsap 11 at home on Tuesday.

“I told the girls at half to improve and have a better half and we played them even in the second,” Port Angeles coach Scott Moseley said.

The Riders (1-1, 3-2) visit Olympic on Thursday.

PORT TOWNSEND — Freshman Irina Lyons scored a hat trick to lead the Redskins (1-2-0, 3-2-0) to a solid victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

“Her finishing on all three goals was way beyond her years,” Port Townsend coach Colin Foden said.

“It was a thrilling night, not so much because of the score but the quality the way the team played.”

The Redskins host Sequim on Thursday.

Girls Swimming

Port Angeles 93, Bainbridge 91

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles felled traditional state swimming power Bainbridge at William Shore Memorial Pool on Tuesday.

“The Lady Riders swam their hearts out from the first start to the last touch,” Port Angeles coach Rich Butler said.

The Riders (3-0, 4-0) took a six-point lead after a double disqualification by Bainbridge in the 200-meter freestyle relay event.

Tarah Erickson, Tori Bock, Mckenna Bell-Duffy and Tracie Macias earned the win in that event in one minute, 52.20 seconds. It was a season best time.

Other winners included Tarah Erickson in the 50-free (27.22), Kaitlin Fairchild in the 100-butterfly (1:09.80), and Kelsey Macias in the 100-backstroke (1:09.47).

Port Angeles visits Klahowya next Thursday.

Boys Tennis

North Kitsap 4, Port Angeles 3

POULSBO — The Riders fell in a tight match against the Vikings on Tuesday.

Port Angeles (3-1) swept the three singles matches with Micah Roos winning the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-2; Connor Reid taking the No. 2 singles match 7-6, 7-5 and Hayden McCartney winning 6-1, 6-2.

Yet the Riders couldn’t string together a doubles win even after forcing decisive third sets in three of the four doubles matches.

“I think we learned some valuable lessons about finishing a match today,” said Riders coach Brian Gundersen.

Port Angeles visits Klahowya today.

Sequim 6, North Kitsap 1

POULSBO — The Wolves (5-0) remained perfect on the season with a win over the Vikings on Monday.

Sequim travels to Bremerton on Friday.
