CENTRALIA — The Port Angeles boys basketball team rebounded from its first loss in 10 games with a 69-58 defeat of the Centralia Tigers on Saturday night.
One night after falling to Kingston 61-42 in one of its worst offensive showings of the season, the Roughriders dished out 20 assists and had five scorers in double figures.
Following an up-and-down first half that saw them trailing 29-28, the Riders roared out of the gates in the third quarter with a 24-11 run that put the game away.
“For a game and half we were kind of in a slump offensively, and finally we woke up,” Port Angeles coach Wes Armstrong said.
“We played very unselfishly, especially in the second half.
“In the locker room we challenged them . . . and the guys responded.”
Keenen Walker and Hayden McCartney each had 15 points to lead the Riders, while Reggie Burke added 12, Cameron Braithwaite 11 and Marshall Elliott 10.
The Rider defense also forced 26 Centralia turnovers, due in large part to the efforts of Braithwaite and Walker, according to coach Armstrong.
“Both Cameron and Keenen Walker played great defense the entire evening,” he said.
“We were kind of shaking our heads in that first half, but the way that we came out in the third quarter it was nice to get out of our little funk.
“This is a tough place to play. I was proud of our effort tonight.”
Port Angeles (6-2 in league, 10-2 overall) will head to North Mason on Tuesday to resume Olympic League play.

PORT ANGELES — Joel Williams ripped the nets for 27 points and added six rebounds and 11 steals to spark the Loggers to the nonleague victory Saturday night.
Williams also scored 27 points Friday night against Clallam Bay in a North Olympic League win.
Sage Fadness scored 13 and Derrick Findley added 10 for Crescent, which improves to 8-4 overall.
Kai Story grabbed seven boards for the Loggers, who led 15-4 after one quarter and 27-8 at halftime.

PORT ANGELES — Sara Moore netted 19 points and Kellie Belford was right behind with 17 as the Loggers had an easy time of it Saturday night.

QUILCENE — Mount Rainier Christian held off the Rangers on Friday night.
Andrea Perez scored a game-high 11 points for Quilcene while Samantha Rae had seven and Ceare Williams netted six.
Haley Rue led Mount Rainier with 11.

Forks fifth
CASTLE ROCK — The Spartans captured fifth place at the 15-team Castle Rock Invitational on Saturday.
Cutter Grahn was the lone individual winner for Forks as he beat defending state champion Danny Barajas of Royal 7-0 in the title match.
