NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay football team continually pounded the ball at Lummi, rushing 56 times for 330 total yards, as the Red Devils rolled to a 28-22 win on Saturday.
Titus Pascua shouldered much of the burden for Neah Bay, rushing 34 times for 168 yards and one touchdown in a rare win against the B-8 powerhouse.
Fullback Evan Bowechop also put up big numbers for the Red Devils (4-0), with 14 rushes for 93 yards and a touchdown and four catches for 61 yards. That included what became the game-winning score: a 25-card catch from quarterback Drexler Doherty with 5:17 to play in the third quarter.
Lummi cut the lead to 28-22 with 2:25 to play in the third quarter.
Neah Bay threatened inside the Blackhawks 20-yard line in the fourth quarter before turning it over on downs with 8:06 to play.
Lummi put together an 11-play drive to the Neah Bay 48 before Red Devil eighth-grader Tyler McCaulley hauled down Eddy Williams a yard short of the first down on fourth-and-two.
Neah Bay picked up a first down and then ran out the clock to preserve the win.
The Red Devils visit rival Clallam Bay next Friday to wrap up the non-league season.

LACEY — Port Angeles battled the entire game against a strong Rams team but failed to field an onside kick in the game’s waning moments of Friday’s Olympic/Western Cascade League game.
The Roughriders (0-2, 0-4) scored a touchdown with five minutes remaining to pull within 24-21 and set up the onside kick.
North Thurston recovered and marched down the short field to score and account for the final margin.
“We felt really good about how the kids played,” Riders coach Dick Abrams said. “When we went down 24-13 in the fourth the kids could have packed it in, but they stayed in there and kept making plays.”
Port Angeles visits Yelm next Friday.

STEILACOOM — Sequim powered past a feisty Sentinels squad with two fourth-quarter touchdown runs by Travis Decker.
“They just got brand-new turf and rededicated the field beforehand so Steilacoom was fired up,” Sequim coach Erik Wiker said. “They were very athletic and a better team than their record showed.”
Steilacoom led 7-6 at halftime and 10-6 in the third quarter before the Wolves began to use a good mix of their traditional power counter’s on offense with some timely passes out of the shotgun spread.
Quarterback Drew Rickerson put Sequim on top to stay with a 20-yard pass to Clancy Catelli before Decker put the game out of reach in the fourth.
“A lot of it was attitude,” Wiker said. “We were going through the motions in the first half and the team realized that we had to play with emotion and play to win.”
Sequim stays on the road for the third straight game Friday at Klahowya (0-1, 0-4).

CHIMACUM 21, CHARLES WRIGHT 17
TACOMA — It took a half of football before the Cowboys’ (1-0, 3-1) power running game ground down the Tarriers in the Nisqually League opener for both squads.
Chimacum’s Austin McConnell, Devin Mannix and Taylor Handly combined for 260 total rushing yards and three touchdowns in the game.
“They really helped us stay with our game plan of controlling the clock and keeping the ball out of their hands,” Chimacum coach Shawn Meacham said.
Charles Wright opened up a two-score advantage in the first half on 27 and 10-yard touchdown passes from Brandon White to Cory Barrett.
Chimacum answered with a pair of third quarter touchdown runs by Mannix and a two point conversion to take a 15-14 lead.
Charles Wright booted a 20-yard field goal to take the lead back at 17-15.
Chimacum then went on a six-minute, 10-second drive to run the clock down to 2:20 before Handly scored to put Chimacum up 21-17.
The Cowboys benefitted on the drive from a critical fourth-down penalty called on Charles Wright for rushing the center on a field goal.
“That two-point conversion [in the third quarter] really helped because Charles Wright had to try for a touchdown on the final drive and not just a tying field goal,” Meacham said.
The Tarriers (0-1, 1-3) were able to get the ball to midfield, courtesy of a defensive pass interference call, but turned the ball over on downs to wrap up the game.
With games against the Nisqually League elite coming up, Chimacum will have to stay focused for its homecoming contest next Friday against Life Christian (0-1, 0-4).
“We have some tough ones coming, and we have got to take care of business against LC,” Meacham said.

ONALASKA 14, FORKS 12
ONALASKA — Forks opened Friday night’s SWL Evergreen Division game with a bang, an 89-yard return of the opening kickoff by Luke Brown.
Unfortunately for the Spartans (1-1, 2-2), there weren’t too many offensive fireworks after that, as the Loggers sealed the game with a block of Forks’ 27-yard field goal attempt with under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
‘We really couldn’t get anything going offensively, ” Forks coach Ron Hurn said.
The Spartans did use much of the fourth quarter to drive all the way to the Onalaska (2-0, 4-0) one-yard line before penalties and a sack pushed Forks back to the 10.
Forks attempt to take the lead with the field goal was then batted down on fourth down.
The Spartans forced an Onalaska punt on the next possession, but Forks’ Brian Santman was intercepted with 40 seconds to play.
Forks will look to regroup at home against Winlock on Friday.
