CLALLAM BAY — Justin Welever netted 11 points and seven other players scored as the Clallam Bay boys basketball team held off the Port Angeles C squad 46-41 on Monday night.
The Bruins (5-8 overall) held a 10-point lead throughout the game as coach Cal Ritter played a lot of his younger athletes in the nonleague contest.
“I was able to get our younger kids playing time and they stepped it up [Monday night],” he said.
“It worked out well for us.”
Jacob Portnoy scored eight points for the Bruins while Ryan Willis and Calvin Ritter sank seven each.
Calvin Ritter, a sophomore, brought down 11 rebounds despite playing just two quarters.
“Calvin had a good game on the boards for us,” Ritter said.
Younger players such as Joe Maneval and Donald Hanson came off the bench to help the team out, according to Ritter.
“Joe stepped it up for us while Donald played good defense,” he said.
The Port Angeles C team had three players score in double figures as Ryan Mudd led the Roughriders with 12 points while Hunter Hathaway popped in 11 and Micki Andrus added 10.
The Bruins next play a North Olympic League game at powerhouse Neah Bay on Wednesday night.

SEQUIM — Size mattered in this one as a bigger Wolves team had an advantage over the Loggers in nonleague action Monday night.
“They were a lot bigger than us,” Crescent coach Brian Scott said.
“We were down by 20 at one point but we did come back and get within 12.”
Freshman Caitlin Stofferahn tied for game high-scoring honors with 18 points for Sequim and she also added six rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots to her performance.
Crescent’s Sara Moore also netted 18 points and she hauled down 11 rebounds for a double-double night.
Moore also had three steals.
Tori McGowen pulled down 14 boards for the Loggers and had three steals.
Kellie Belford led Crescent with four steals.
The Loggers (4-5 overall) next host Neah Bay on Friday night.

CLALLAM BAY — Kenna Welever led a balanced Bruins’ attack with nine points in the nonleague contest Monday night.
Seven score
Seven Clallam Bay players scored with Jeddie Herndon adding eight points.
The Bruins led 15-10 at halftime and then really poured it on in the second half with a 27-15 advantage to win by 17 points.
Melissa Willis led Clallam Bay with 10 rebounds and four assists. She also scored six points.
At Monday’s game, the Clallam Bay girls wore Laranda Konopaski’s name on their arms to show respect for her, Tonia Signor wrote in an email to the PDN.
Konopaski, who graduated from Clallam Bay last spring, was stabbed to death Sunday in Forks.
