PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys tennis team turned in its “best match of the year” in beating the Chimacum/Port Townsend combined team 6-1 on Friday afternoon.
The Roughriders (5-1) swept all four doubles matches, while No. 1 singles player Micah Roos turned in a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Benny Ryweck.
“I was really proud of the way we played today,” Port Angeles coach Brian Gundersen said.
Winning doubles matches for Port Angeles were the duos of A.J. Konopaski and Connor Reid, Derek Crain and Sam Beasely, Michael and Marcus Konopaski and Tavish Casey and Troy Gallagher. Also, Hayden McCartney took the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2 against Carlos Burleson.
The victory from A.J. Konopaski and Red in the No. 1 doubles match was especially sweet as the pair rallied from a set down to beat Perry Pearsall and Ian Norris 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.
“A.J. and Connor played a thriller that had everybody on the edge of their seat,” Gundersen said. “They hit some of their best shots in the biggest moments.”
Port Angeles travels to rival Sequim on Monday.

Clallam Bay 3, Lummi 0
CLALLAM BAY — The Bruins (6-0) turned in their third three-game sweep of the season, beating the Blackhawks 25-15, 25-21, 25-18 on Saturday.
Kirsten Erickson led the Bruins with three aces, nine assists and one block, while Sarah Reeves had three kills, Courtney Willis two kills and seven assists and Melissa Willis one ace, one kill and four blocks.
The Bruins head to Port Angeles to take on the Rider junior varsity on Wednesday.
Port Angeles 2-2 at tourney
LANGLEY — The Riders split four matches at the 28th annual South Whidbey Invitational on Saturday.
Port Angeles went 2-1 in pool play, beating South Whidbey II and Omak in two games each, while losing to Cascade.
The Riders were then ousted in the second-place playoff by South Whidbey’s varsity 23-25, 25-19, 15-7.
Kiah Jones led all Port Angeles hitters with 16 kills and 23 digs. Emily Cook added 14 kills and eight blocks.
Danielle Rutherford put up 14 kills and 12 digs while Lauren Coventon had 16 digs. Emily Drake dished out 36 assists.
Port Angeles hosts two-time defending Olympic League champion North Mason on Tuesday.
Charles Wright 3, Chimacum 2
TACOMA — The Cowboys lost a 1A Nisqually League road match to the Tarriers on Friday night 15-25, 28-26,18-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Chimacum’s (1-3, 3-3) top hitter was Dani Kaminski with 13 kills. Natasha Kiesel added five aces for the Cowboys.
Chimacum hosts Cascade Christian on Monday.
