PORT TOWNSEND — A 66-year-old man is dead after the vehicle he was driving left the road and hit a tree.
Daniel Huntingford of Port Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene Monday afternoon.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred on South Discovery Road near Olympic Boulevard, just south of the intersection with Cape George Road.
Firefighters and law enforcement arrived at the scene at 12:29 p.m. to find an unconscious male trapped inside a gray Toyota T100.
Personnel worked to extricate the victim from the cab, which was heavily damaged on the passenger side.
East Jefferson Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Bill Beezley said rescuers did not find a pulse when they arrived on scene, and began cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which proved to be unsuccessful.
“When deciding to do CPR, a lot of the decision is based on the condition of the patient,” Beezley said.
“The victim was unconscious when he was pulled from the wreck.”
In addition to EJFR, units from Naval Magazine Indian Island, Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue and Quilcene Fire Rescue assisted at the scene.
Jefferson County Undersheriff Art Frank confirmed Huntingford was the victim in the wreck.
Frank said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Huntingford, the owner of SOS Printing for 21 years, sold the business to Mike Kenna and Printery Communications last month. Prior to that, he was the advertising manager for the Port Townsend Leader for 20 years.
Kenna said Huntingford “is a well-loved member of the community.”
