Some students will get an extended Christmas break due to the flurries of snow that continued to fall on the North Olympic Peninsula.
All school districts throughout the North Olympic Peninsula canceled Thursday classes.
All after hours activities were also canceled.
Port Angeles, Sequim and Cape Flattery school districts also will cancel today’s classes.
Schools will begin a two-week break on Monday. Classes will resume Jan. 5.
Port Angeles and Sequim both had several inches of snow packed into ice on some streets, said Gary Cohn, superintendent in Port Angeles, and Bill Bentley, superintendent in Sequim.
“The most important thing is the safety of our students,” Bentley said.
He said that the school buses would be fine on the roads, but that other safety concerns led to the decision to close.
“You have icy roads and many drivers who are not prepared, and then you also have children standing on the side of the road,” he said.
“That is not the situation you want.”
Crescent School District had not made a determination Thursday.

Quillayute Valley School District Superintendent Diana Reaume on Thursday afternoon said she was unsure whether or not school would be canceled today.
