Snow disrupts some schools, motorists; rest of week likely to be rainy

Students didn’t go to school Monday in Port Angeles and Sequim, and others had early-outs in Forks.

But only one school district — Port Angeles — was closed solely because of up to 6 inches of snow that blanketed low-lying areas of the North Olympic Peninsula the night before.

The good news is that most of Peninsula are rid of the snow for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service on Monday night said near-sea-level elevations from Port Townsend to Neah Bay and south to Forks are warming to normal patterns of rain beginning today.

Wet, cloudy weather is expected into the weekend, but temperatures will be warmer, with daytime highs reaching into the low 40s along the Strait of Juan de Fuca shoreline.

In higher elevations, however, more snow is coming this week.
