Steve Snover, a 21-year veteran of the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department, was appointed undersheriff by Sheriff Joe Martin on Monday.
Snover was sworn in by the sheriff Monday afternoon to replace the retired Fred DeFrang, who Snover described as a friend and mentor. DeFrang, the longest serving deputy in Clallam County history, officially announced his retirement Friday.
Martin said the selection of Snover as the new undersheriff was not difficult, given Snover’s record of service with the department, rising to the rank of patrol captain.
Snover now oversees 96 employees in the operations, corrections, investigations and support services divisions of the Sheriff’s Department.
