BLYN — Five people were evacuated from a residential structure fire early Thursday morning east of Sequim.
No injuries were reported.
The five people were awakened by smoke alarms about 12:56 a.m., Clallam County Fire District 3 officials said. They called 911 and reported fire was in the ceiling and was “crawling down the wall.”
The first crew arrived within 10 minutes and initiated an exterior attack on the two-story residence in the 27100 block of U.S. Highway 101. Additional units arrived and helped extinguish the fire and begin a primary search of the building, fire district officials said.
When another engine arrived, crews were directed to the roof to begin ventilation operations with chain saws to gain access to the burning void spaces, fire district officials said.
An uninterrupted water supply was provided by water tenders from three stations throughout the incident, fire district officials said.
Traffic control was provided by the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, and Olympic Ambulance was at the scene for any emergency medical needs, fire district officials said.
While all available resources from Fire District 3 were committed to the fire, Clallam County Fire District 2 crews responded via mutual aid to an unrelated emergency medical service call within Fire District 3, officials said.
The cause of the structure fire remained under investigation on Thursday.
