Slides, outages repaired

NEAH BAY — Rain and wind led to three closures on state Highway 112, all of which had been cleared by Friday afternoon.

Early Friday morning, the highway was blocked by a slide at milepost 5 outside Neah Bay, according to Trooper Katherine Weatherwax, State Patrol spokesperson.

Truck-sized boulders were reported on the road at 12:49 a.m., she said. By about 8 a.m., the road had been cleared, she said.

Later that day, at 2:08 p.m., another slide was reported at milepost 4.5. No more information was available.

On Thursday, trees fell onto 112 at milepost 46, blocking it to traffic. It has been re-opened since.

Thursday was windy on the North Olympic Peninsula. More than 7,000 public utility customers suffered electrical outages.

All were back online by Friday morning, except for 124 Clallam Public Utility District customers south of U.S. Highway 101 between Port Angeles and Sequim.

The biggest outage on Thursday left all of the West End without power beginning at 1:27 p.m.

A tree fell on a Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) line, which cut power to 5,908 Clallam PUD customers — 5,711 in Clallam County and 197 in West Jefferson County.

The line was repaired by about 6 p.m. Thursday.

A branch on a line cut electricity to about 1,000 Jefferson County PUD customers getting power from a Chimacum substation at about the same time as the BPA outage.

At 3:45 p.m., another 1,000 or so lost power in Port Hadlock and Irondale areas and the line from Chimacum, which had been repaired, went out again.

All in East Jefferson County were finally reinstated by about 4:30 p.m.
