PORT TOWNSEND — Six people were rescued from a 32-foot trawler Monday evening after the boat caught fire in the water off North Beach.
At 4:33 p.m., East Jefferson Fire-Rescue received a call from the captain of the Kloshie Bay, stating that the boat was on fire and it was attempting to make land, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue spokesman Bill Beezley.
During the distress call, the captain said there were two adults and four children aboard the vessel.
All the occupants were rescued uninjured by emergency personnel who arrived only minutes after the distress call.
The first to arrive on the scene was the Coast Guard cutter Sea Fox at about 4:45, followed by Guardian, the East Jefferson Fire-Rescue boat, and a smaller Coast Guard vessel.
Fire personnel boarded the vessel and extinguished the fire, which had originated inside the boat’s walls.
The fire was declared extinguished at 5:19 p.m., and the adult passengers remained onboard.
Guardian, with the four juvenile passengers, was waiting at the scene Monday evening for the arrival of Vessel Assist and then planned to travel to Point Hudson with the children.
Vessel Assist was scheduled to tow the disabled vessel to the Boat Haven for repairs, Beezley said.
