Six cars damaged in parking lot collision at Jefferson Healthcare

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare officials helped patients and clients arrange rides and have lunch after five cars had to be towed out of the hospital’s parking lot.

No one was injured after Port Hadlock resident Sydney Keegan, 77, hit three parked vehicles, pushing the third into two others.

Five of the six vehicles involved were towed out of the parking lot this morning, said Chief Michael Evans of the Port Townsend Police Department.

Keegan was driving a Subaru Forester in the main parking lot of Jefferson Healthcare on the corner of Sheridan and Seventh streets when reportedly another vehicle start backing out in front of her. She sped up to get around the vehicle and hit the parked vehicles, Evans said.

Keegan did not hit the vehicle backing out.

No drugs or alcohol were involved, Evans said.

While the investigation was going on in the parking lot, hospital staff provided the drivers and passengers involved with lunch and cab vouchers to get home, as only one of the vehicles was able to drive away from the wreck, said Amy Yaley, communications manager for Jefferson Healthcare.

It took five separate tow trucks from Northwest Towing and All City Towing to clear the scene, Evans said.

Some of the damage included a truck’s bumper pushed in, a back window of another vehicle smashed, multiple taillights damaged and the front end of Keegan’s Forester severely damaged.

It was unknown as of early this afternoon the total amount of damage, but Evans estimated it to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Keegan has not been cited by police. An investigation continues.

Evans expects the full police report to be filed within the next few days.
