PORT ANGELES – The public can meet the six candidates for Port Angeles police chief tonight.
The candidates – one of whom is now serving as interim chief – will be available at 6 p.m. at the Vern Burton Center at 308 E. Fourth St. to meet the public.
On Friday, the candidates will go through three rounds of interviews – a panel of community members, a panel of Port Angeles police officers and one of city department heads.
City Manager Mark Madsen said a timeline for making a job offer – or announcing whether the six candidates will be reduced to several finalists – will depend on how Friday’s interviews go.
The police chief reports to the city manager.
Bellevue-based Prothman Co., suggested the city consider one of its own – Terry Gallagher, the acting police chief – as well as police chiefs and a captain from the Midwest and California.
Madsen said that because one of the candidates is from within the department, he will not disclose which police department officers will be sitting on the interview panel on Friday.
“I don’t want people asking them about it and distracting them from their jobs,” Madsen said.
