PORT TOWNSEND — Simon Lynge, an internationally known singer who lives in Port Townsend, will join another local singer and song leader, Aimée Ringle, for a benefit concert for Sunfield Farm and Waldorf School this Friday.
The venue for the 7 p.m. event is Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 2333 San Juan Ave.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the Sunfield benefit concert.
Admission to Friday’s event is a $20 suggested donation at the door, though no one will be turned away.
Those who want to buy tickets in advance — and reserve premium seats — can visit www.SunfieldFarm.org.
Lynge, a Greenland native, will perform original music and share personal slides and stories about his homeland.
“Sunfield Farm and Waldorf School is a valuable and colorful presence in our community run by dedicated and visionary people,” Lynge said.
He and his wife, Janna Marit, have a 5-year-old son, Django, who goes to kindergarten at Sunfield in Port Hadlock.
Lynge is also an ambassador for Foreningen Grønlandske Børn, the Greenlandic Children’s Organization (www.fgb.dk).
Greenland introduction
His slides will introduce people to the icy nation, where he and Marit have given concerts.
During the intermission at Friday’s show, guests can find out more about the nonprofit Sunfield Farm and Waldorf School; buy tickets to a drawing for a quilt made by Sunfield parents and staff; enjoy coffee, tea and homemade cookies; and sign up for a weekly share of certified organic produce from Sunfield Farm.
The farm, now in its sixth year of running the Waldorf School, has 95 students in preschool through eighth grade.
Its mission, according to its website, is to “engage the hands, awaken the mind, and nurture connections between the earth and its inhabitants.”
Friday’s concert will be Lynge’s last before he travels to Los Angeles to independently record his second album, funded by a Kickstarter.com campaign that raised more than $36,000. This CD will be a follow-up to his first, “The Future.”
Ringle, for her part, plans to offer a few songs about kids, songs she believes will have people dancing.
“I’ll just be opening for Simon,” said Ringle, adding that Lynge is “this amazing musician.”
