SIgnup now to participate in Chowder Cookoff on Oct. 13

PORT ANGELES — Professional and amateur chowder cooks can enter their offerings in the inaugural Captain Joseph House Benefit Chowder Cookoff.

Judged by the “Galloping Gourmet” Chef Graham Kerr, the event will be held during the Dungeness Crab & Seafood Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13.

Entry fees are $45 for the first professional entry and $22.50 for each additional chowder entry. Amateurs are $20 for the first entry and $10 each additional entry.

All fees go directly to the Captain Joseph House Foundation and are tax-deductible. The foundation is raising funds to convert a former bed-and-breakfast into an all-expenses-paid respite for families of fallen members of the armed services.

Any type of chowder is acceptable, including seafood, combination and vegetarian.

To enter a team, visit www.crabfestival.org or www.CaptainJosephHouse
Foundation.org, review the rules and regulations and submit and application and registration fee by Monday.

Festival visitors can watch the cooking beginning at 10 a.m. and taste chowders from both amateurs and professionals starting about noon.

Tastes of chowder can be purchased for five tastes for $10 with attendees able to purchase as many tastes as they would like.

A “People’s Choice Award” will be presented.

Kerr will pick the winner and present the People’s Choice Award at 2 p.m.
