OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — Drivers can expect delays of up to a half-hour during weekday work hours on U.S. Highway 101 around Lake Crescent this week.
Guardrail installation, ditch cleaning and striping of fog lines will continue in the $27.5 million project.
Next week, beginning Monday, Nov. 12, four-hour traffic delays are planned between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to remove a rock hazard, said Penny Wagner, Olympic National Park spokeswoman.
Because of the unpredictable nature of the rock removal operation, a four-hour delay also could be needed Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 13-14, depending on the progress, Wagner said.
During the delays beginning Nov. 12, travelers to and from the western side of the North Olympic Peninsula can use state highways 112 and 113 as an alternate route. Highway 101 eastbound from Forks will remain open up to the turn for Barnes Point where Lake Crescent Lodge, NatureBridge, and the trailheads are located. Highway 101 westbound from Port Angeles will be open up to mile marker 232/East Beach Road.
Strider Construction Inc. of Bellingham is in its second of three seasons of work in a project to rehabilitate 12 miles of the highway.
The project cost $27.5 million.
Construction seasons are from March through mid-November.
