SEQUIM — A 64-year-old Sequim resident died when his car went over an embankment on Lost Mountain Road.
Darrell Piatt failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the centerline at about 4:35 p.m. Monday.
The red two-door Chevrolet Camaro traversed bushes and a driveway on the 200 block of Lost Mountain Road and then went airborne before colliding into trees, according to a news release from the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found Piatt, who was not wearing a seat belt, partially ejected from the vehicle, said Brian King, chief criminal deputy for sheriff’s office. Piatt was traveling alone.
Deputies attempted CPR, but Clallam County Fire District No. 3 medics determined that Piatt had died.
The cause of the single-vehicle wreck remains under investigation.
“We believe alcohol was a factor in the collision,” King said.
King said evidence found at the scene led investigators to this conclusion. He declined to comment on the specific evidence.
The sheriff’s office notified Piatt’s family in Tacoma on Monday, King said.
The sheriff’s office had no estimate of the speed Piatt was traveling.
