PORT LUDLOW — A sewage release at the Port Ludlow Wastewater Treatment Plant on Sunday has prompted a no-contact advisory for the waters of Port Ludlow Bay.
The release was attributed to a power surge that disabled a control panel on a pump station and resulted in the discharge of approximately 7,500 gallons of raw sewage through an offshore outfall, according to the Jefferson County Department of Environmental Health.
Avoid water
The public is advised to avoid any contact with the water in Port Ludlow Bay, including swimming, kayaking, fishing and harvesting of shellfish and seaweed.
The no-contact health advisory remains in effect until further notice.
The harvesting of shellfish is always closed in Port Ludlow due to the proximity of the sewage treatment plant outfall and marina.
