Services, volunteer projects mark 9/11

The ninth anniversary of the terrorists bombings of Sept. 11, 2001, will be remembered with special Day of Caring projects organized by the United Way of Clallam County and ceremonies across the North Olympic Peninsula on Saturday.

In Port Townsend, East Jefferson Fire-Rescue Deputy Chief Ted Krysinski will lead a brief memorial service Saturday commemorating those lost in the terrorist attacks.

The memorial service will begin at 9 a.m. at the Bell Tower, Jefferson and Tyler streets.

It will last approximately 20 minutes.

In addition to representatives from East Jefferson Fire-Rescue, Port Townsend police will be in attendance.

The public is invited.

In Sequim, a brief remembrance service is planned at 7:30 a.m. at the flagpole at 815 W. Washington St.

The ceremony will kick off Day of Caring volunteer projects in Sequim. Community members are invited to attend the remembrance program whether they plan to volunteer or not.

Each project will begin with a moment of silence to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks.
