PORT ANGELES — J. Scott Schaefer has been elected president of the Serenity House of Clallam County board of directors.
Schaefer, who lives in Sequim, is pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Quilcene.
He joined the Serenity House Board in 2012, after retiring from the position of financial director for the agency. He served as its treasurer in 2014.
Brando S. Blore of Port Angeles, who joined the board in 1995 and served as president for 18 years, will continue as a director. He is an operator at Nippon Paper Co.’s recycled paper plant.
Replacing Schaefer as treasurer is Richard Chambers of Port Angeles, a retired engineer who joined the board in 2014.
Vice president Christopher Melly and secretary Patsy Feeley, both of Port Angeles, continue in those positions.
Melly, on the board since 2011, is a Clallam County Superior Court judge.
Feeley, a board member since 1999, is an aide to state Sen. Jim Hargrove.
Serenity House’s new executive director Kim Leach, who was deputy director under Kathy Wahto, presented a reorganized agency structure with Kevin Harkins promoted to operations manager.
Four awards presented at the annual meeting included:
■ Sherry Wabaunsee, Olympic Community Action Program’s Port Angeles office coordinator, was honored as Community Partner of 2014.
■ Hailey McLaughlin, who chose Serenity House as the host site for her internship for her bachelor’s degree in sociology and human and family development and remained as a volunteer, received the Program Volunteer Certificate of Appreciation.
■ Carol Van Brocklin, the longest serving volunteer, now at the Port Angeles thrift store, and Tom and Rita Thatcher, who volunteer at the Sequim store, received Sally Garnero Memorial Awards for volunteer service.
Founded in 1983, Serenity House is dedicated to preventing and ending homelessness in Clallam County.
