SEQUIM — Democrat Kevin Van De Wege, who gave state Rep. Jim Buck a run for his money in 2004, announced Thursday that he will again challenge the Republican incumbent for his 24th District seat.
“I still have a strong desire to help the people of the 24th and running against Jim Buck is a good way to do that,” Van De Wege said.
“The party is definitely excited about me running and will be very supportive.”
Van De Wege, a 31-year-old firefighter/paramedic with Clallam County Fire District No. 3, ran against Buck two years ago and received 31,482 votes, or 48.82 percent.
The 24th District covers Clallam and Jefferson counties and part of Grays Harbor County.
Buck is one of its two representatives, who serve two-year terms.
The other is Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, who also is House Majority Leader.
