Sequim’s Music Live with Lunch returns from break

SEQUIM — Music Live with Lunch, the concert series offering a midday meal of song and sustenance, returns from its summer break this Tuesday.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is the place, and the public is welcome to enjoy a varied 30-minute performance starting at noon: African-American spirituals and Russian folk songs with baritone Joel Yelland and pianist Lorraine Martin.

“Climbing Up the Mountain,” “Ezekiel’s Wheel,” “Vikhazhu odin ya na darogu” (I Turn, Alone on the Road), “Little Daid, Play On Your Harp,” “Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen,” “Wade in the Water” and “Kalinka” — all are on the program.

A hot lunch will be served in the parish hall at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Tickets are $10 and include both the meal and the music.

Guests may buy tickets at the door of St. Luke’s, 525 N. Fifth Ave., on the day of the concert.

And until the first note of Tuesday’s performance, season tickets are available, giving the patron eight concerts for $70.

Music Live with Lunch returns to St. Luke’s at noon every third Tuesday of the month, September through May; performers donate their time to make these concerts fundraisers for local charities.

“The proceeds go to whatever ministry is in need at the time,” said coordinator Susan Kaiser.

Kaiser added that funds raised at the lunches may support St. Luke’s Saturday Light Lunch program for people who are homeless, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula or the Priest’s Discretionary Fund, with which St. Luke’s helps people in emergencies.

The Music Live with Lunch series will bring bluegrass and country songs with the Winding River Band on Oct. 15, the Port Angeles High School Chamber Orchestra with director Ron Jones on Nov. 19 and, after a break in December, singer and vintage-guitar player Dennis Blair on Jan. 21.

Also booked are a Hawaiian music and dance duo Feb. 18 and teen fiddler Kate Powers on April 15.

Single-concert and season tickets are not sold by phone, but information is available at the St. Luke’s parish office at 360-683-4862.
