CARLSBORG — A Sequim woman is in serious condition in a Seattle hospital after the car she was riding in overturned and struck a utility pole along U.S. Highway 101 at Kitchen-Dick Road early this morning.
Daniel J. Carter, 43, was driving eastbound in a 1993 BMW 325 four-door when he lost control and the car left the roadway, said State Patrol troopers. The wreck was reported at 2:20 a.m.
Carter was taken to Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles with head and shoulder injuries. He was treated and discharged, hospital spokeswoman Bobby Beeman said.
His passenger, Tearra L. Ristick, 28, also of Sequim, was taken to OMC with chest and back injuries. She was stabilized at OMC and transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Ristick was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview this afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson said.
Carter was passing another vehicle when he lost control of the car and veered off the roadway to the right side, according to the State Patrol.
A trooper at the scene said Carter and Ristick were wearing seat belts, the State Patrol said. Drugs or alcohol were not involved.
The car was totally destroyed, the State Patrol said.
The State Patrol said the wreck remains under investigation.
