SEQUIM — A 61-year-old Sequim woman has been charged with first-degree theft for allegedly stealing approximately $14,000 from an elderly man in her care.
Linda Ann Ruby has been summoned to appear in Clallam County Superior Court on April 6.
The charge was filed March 8.
Sequim police officers said Ruby, hired to care for Thomas Mort, age unknown, stole the cash by overbilling him for the hours she worked.
According to court documents:
Ruby billed Mort $2,000 extra each month for seven months in 2009.
Mort, who has Alzheimer’s disease, signed the checks, which were otherwise filled out by Ruby.
Ruby told police she would use about half the money for herself and use the rest of it to give Mort spending cash and buy him clothing and other “incidentals.”
