An elderly Sequim woman was airlifted to a Seattle hospital after a two-vehicle wreck 22 miles north of Shelton today.
Isabella H. Baxter, 97, was a passenger in a 37-foot motorhome that struck an 18-foot motorhome making an improper U-turn on U.S. Highway 101 in Mason County, the State Patrol said.
She was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after the 12:25 p.m. wreck, a State Patrol memo said.
Her condition was not known at 7 p.m. today.
The driver of the motorhome she was traveling in — Sidney D. Baggett, 81 — was injured but not transported to a hospital, according to the State Patrol.
The cause of the wreck was an improper U-turn, the State Patrol said, adding that a citation is pending against Hiroyasu Kikuchi, 38, of Bellevue.
The State Patrol gave this account:
Baggett’s 1993 Kountry Aire motorhome, which was towing a 2006 Suzuki Forenza, hit a 2013 Majestic motorhome driven by Kikuchi.
Kikuchi was traveling north on Highway 101 when he pulled to the shoulder and started a U-turn, blocking both lanes of the highway.
Baggett was unable to stop, the State Patrol said.
Kikuchi was injured but was not taken to a hospital, the State Patrol said.
Two children riding in his motorhome — Ena Kikuchi, 6, and Mana Kikuchi, 2 — were taken to Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
Mizuho Kikuchi, 36, was injured but not taken to a hospital, the State Patrol said.
All those in the vehicles were wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol, which said that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
