SEQUIM — Walk away from Bronwyn “Brandy” Salmon — or hang up the phone after a chat with her — and you’ll invariably hear “cheery!” as a parting remark.
It’s a traditional Down Under greeting, typical of those who have lived in Australia.
Salmon is anything but cheery these days, as months in Sequim go by and her beloved husband, Jim Salmon, is stuck in Australia — forbidden by the U.S. government from re-entering this country.
“I miss him every day,” Brandy said, resolute but unmistakably sad.
The only hope for Jim Salmon right now rests with the U.S. Consulate in Sydney, which holds discretion over immigration matters of those in Australia hoping to enter the United States legally.
