SEQUIM — The center of town is to be enlightened and one sharp-eyed person enriched.
The lights on the Christmas tree at the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street will be switched on at 5 p.m. today, and a pair of local business women are making it worthwhile to witness the event.
Cheryl Gray and Gail Frick of Edward Jones Investments donated a $200 shopping spree for the individual who can guess about how many lights shine from the tree.
The winner can spend the cash anywhere in Sequim, said event organizer Emily Westcott.
Saturday at 11 a.m., the Sequim City Band will give a concert to warm up shoppers for the arrival of Santa Claus.
Sequim police will escort him into downtown at noon, and when the jolly guy, who”ll be astride a motorcycle, arrives at the Bank of America park at Sequim Avenue and Washington Street, the traffic lights there will turn red, Westcott promised.
At 1 p.m., Santa will give the green light to a performance by the Sunshine Generation, a children’s group.
Downtown Sequim hasn’t had a Christmas tree in years, Westcott said.
This year Sequim residents John and Pam Lucas donated the tree and the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsored the events around it.
