SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will host a Community Broadband Meeting from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Experts in the broadband and telecommunications field will discuss the future of broadband service in Sequim and the east end of Clallam County and how it could affect individuals and the community.
Meeting facilitators will be available to answer questions and take comments from participants.
City officials say discussions will center on a wide range of topics including current and future service needs — service expansion, higher-speed data communications, more portable and mobile communications, provision of residential and business services and applications — and infrastructure availability concerns, such as expansion of fiber optics and wireless systems, availability of new networks, extension of existing networks, and network interconnections.
“Broadband communications services for Sequim and Eastern Clallam County are not uniformly available and have created challenges for residents, businesses, organizations and institutions,” City of Sequim representatives said in a press release last week.
The meeting, they said, will look to answer such questions as, “What are the current and future broadband needs of the Sequim and Eastern Clallam County Community?” “Could the City of Sequim and the county help spur faster and more wide-ranging development of such services, and what should their level of service be?” “How might broadband provider help meet these needs?”
