SEQUIM — An international lodging chain is seeking to build a three-story hotel near a proposed major regional shopping center near U.S. Highway 101 and River Road.
Choice Hotels International, through a franchisee, has an application with the city’s Planning and Public Works Department to build a 60-room Quality Inn on a two-acre parcel at the intersection of River and Grant roads.
The site hugs the northwest quadrant of the Highway 101 interchange with River Road, west of a planned regional shopping center featuring a Home Depot home improvement warehouse outlet, and southwest of a Wal-Mart superstore.
Although the chain has hoisted signs advertising the hotel’s scheduled arrival, city Planning Director Dennis Lefevre said Monday that an announcement might be premature.
“We received their application and deemed it to be complete, but have requested some additional information,” Lefevre said.
The applicant, franchisee Bret Wirta of Seattle, has requested a binding site plan for a four-acre lot, splitting it into three parcels for the hotel and two restaurants.
