SEQUIM — Staff from the city of Sequim will present at the Transforming Local Government Conference in Phoenix on May 6.
The conference is sponsored by the Alliance for Innovation to promote innovation in local government and create a network of leaders across North America, according to a press release.
Sue Hagener, administrative services director, and Barbara Hanna, communications and marketing director, will present “Power to the People, Right On! Participatory Budgeting through the People’s Project — Your Money — Your Power — Your Project.”
Hagener and Hanna will explain how the city used participatory budgeting in its 2019 “People’s Project! — Your Money — Your Power — Your Project.”
The project solicited public input on how to spend $150,000 of the city’s 2020 budget.
As a result of the People’s Project, the city will be installing nine water filling stations in city parks and four Big Belly automated trash and recycling stations.
The city staff is currently reviewing community input for projects to place on the ballot for the 2021 People’s Project.
Voting for these projects will take place during the Irrigation Festival.
