PORT ANGELES — The biggest football game in Port Angeles-Sequim history ended up being a big blowout.
An estimated crowd of 4,200 people crammed into Civic Field to watch the Sequim Wolves claim a resounding 41-0 victory for its sixth league title in seven seasons.
Sequim dominated Port Angeles the same way it had the past two seasons, totaling 487 yards to the Roughriders’ 165 in its third straight win in the series.
The Wolves are now 5-2 against the Riders since the rivalry was renewed in 2004.
Drew Rickerson threw for 296 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 18-of-26 passing. He added two more scores on runs of 17 and 8 yards, both during a 20-0 Wolves second quarter, as Sequim raced out to a 27-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
The crowd for Friday night’s de facto Olympic League championship is believed to be a record for a Port Angeles home game.
Unfortunately for the Riders, many began filing out of the west sideline grandstand by the end of the third quarter.
At that point, Class 2A’s tenth-ranked Wolves were ahead 41-0 and well on their way to handing No. 7 Port Angeles (6-1 in league, 8-1 overall) its first loss of the season.
The east sideline, filled with more than 1,000 Sequim fans, was still as boisterous as ever.
