SEQUIM — Superintendent Mike Joyner will leave the Sequim School District at the end school year that starts today.
The 53-year-old Joyner submitted his letter of resignation during Tuesday night’s School Board meeting and was praised by School Board members for his effort.
Joyner, who became superintendent in 1999, said he will resign because it was time for him to find a position closer to his family.
Joyner’s family lives in the Tacoma area, where he was assistant superintendent of the Fife School District for two years prior to moving to Sequim.
The bulk of Joyner’s educational experience was in Gainesville, Fla., where he had been an administrator for 25 years.
Joyner’s resignation comes on the heels of three School Board executive sessions on his job performance.
The third session was held Tuesday night, but Joyner said his resignation had nothing to do with that process.
