SEQUIM — A retreat for school district administrators will be held 80 miles away despite objections raised by a local resident.
Superintendent Mike Joyner confirmed Thursday that the district’s 11 administrators will spend three days out of the county in mid-August in strategic planning sessions at a resort in Union, near the south end of Hood Canal.
Alderbrook, 7101 E. Highway 106, in Union offers conference amenities, fine dining, heated pools and hot tubs, and outdoor recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, boating and golfing.
“Why are we going out of town?” resident Joan Ritchie asked during a School Board meeting Monday.
During that meeting, Ritchie criticized the district for spending taxpayer money to meet Aug. 15 too far away for many residents to be able to attend.
The retreat is open to the public.
Joyner countered by saying that having an out-of-area retreat eliminates interruptions.
“We get 10 to 12 hours of work from which can be very beneficial,” Joyner said.
