SEQUIM — Negotiations for their next contract jumped off the bargaining table and into the limelight Monday night as Sequim Middle School teachers expressed concern about cutting class periods.
Science teacher Joe Landoni was given a standing ovation by other teachers and parents after telling the School Board reducing the number of periods would increase class sizes while eliminating students’ abilities to take elective subjects.
District officials have been considering reducing the class day from seven periods to six, while teachers want more planning time.
School Board members seemed surprised the issue came up in public.
