SEQUIM — School board members looked at proposed property tax levy amounts Monday night that would keep programs and staffing in Sequim schools about where they are now through the 2009-10 school year.
“These are just estimates. Please underline that word,” Superintendent Garn Christensen said to the board, calling the numbers a “very conservative proposal.”
“This is not a levy where we could be expanding programs,” he said.
“We can continue what we’ve got.”
The Sequim School District will collect about $2.6 million in levy dollars in the current school year.
In the scenario described to board members Monday, that amount would increase 7 percent next year to $2.8 million, and then 4 percent each year afterward to an expected $3.1 million in the last year of the four-year levy.
Information on the property tax rate was not available, but the district expects to receive updated property value assessments from Clallam County by Friday.
