Sequim: Preliminary deal points to Fred Meyer on U.S. 101 at Sequim Avenue

SEQUIM — What’s on your list today?

If it’s a shopping trip at a 160,00-square-foot combined department and grocery store — without a trip to Kitsap County — you may soon be in luck.

Sequim land holder Mark Burrowes said Thursday he’s struck a preliminary deal — including a purchase-and-sale agreement — with regional retailer Fred Meyer that will bring one of their department stores to a 16-acre parcel of land off of South Sequim Avenue near the U.S. Highway 101 interchange.

Representatives from Portland, Ore.-based Fred Meyer are curious to know what residents think of their tentative plans and are inviting residents to an open house on Thursday.

“It’s pretty common for us to reach out to a community in the first stages of our development process,” said Rob Boley, a spokesman for Fred Meyer.

Fred Meyer officials will present information and take questions from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Pioneer Park Clubhouse, 387 E. Washington St.
