SEQUIM — Port of Port Angeles commissioners met Monday at John Wayne Marina to assist Port staff in considering major renovations — but renovations are a long way off, if ever happening at all.
The idea has been bandied about for several years, but is still in early stages of discussion, commissioners told the audience of about 20.
Most who attended Monday’s session were members of the Sequim Bay Yacht Club, a nonprofit organization that uses the Wayne marina for its functions.
Port staff stressed that preliminary plans presented Monday were subject to change after several layers of review.
Work toward narrowing down specific renovation options was undertaken by the John Wayne Marina Advisory Committee.
The port has eyed expanding the marina facilities to meet the growing needs of east Clallam County, including a more wealthy demographic likely to bring pleasure boats and yachts into the area.
The set of options laid out Monday resulted from marketing and facilities studies conducted by consultants BST Associates and Mithun Architects, both of Port Angeles.
