SEQUIM — Petco, which had been eyeing Sequim as a possible store location, must have liked what it saw.
The national pet store chain will open a 12,000- to 15,000-square-foot store at 1145 W. Washington St. in April.
The new Petco store will become another addition to an increasingly prime shopping location on the North Olympic Peninsula.
It will join Costco Wholesale, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Starbucks and Applebee’s restaurant near the intersection of River Road and West Washington Street by the end of 2006.
Sequim Mayor Walt Schubert said the area is becoming what city leaders had wanted and he doesn’t believe the increased number of retail outlets in a concentrated area will cause any problems.
“We’re installing traffic signals at the bypass [River Road and U.S. Highway 101],” Schubert said.
