Sequim Open Aire Market adds midweek summer sales

SEQUIM — The Sequim Open Aire Market will hold a midweek market for its first time.

Each Wednesday for the summer season, the group will meet at the corner of Sequim Avenue and Washington Street for a midweek market from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., said director Lisa Bridge.

“This was inspired because we had an invitation to use a great location,” Bridge said

The market was started in 1995 and has been operating Saturdays for the majority of the time on Cedar Street between Second Street and Sequim Avenue.

The Saturday market will continue as before from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Bridge said.

The new location came with the offer from The Sandwich Shop owner John Junnell, who leases the location at Sequim Avenue and Washington Street.

“He’s a real advocate for visibility for these farmers,” Bridge said.

“He himself buys from some of these farms for his meat and produce needs.”

To test whether the location would work, the group ran a trial during the Sequim Irrigation Festival.

“We used this lot for the Irrigation Festival, whereas in the past we hadn’t set up during the festival because we always open the weekend after that,” Bridge said.

“We used it as a trial, and it worked fantastic, so we knew we could try the Wednesday market.”

The midweek market will include grass-fed beef, produce, coffee, chocolate and goat soap for the first weekend, Bridge said.

She said she is also considering whether in the future the group might set up in the area for its “extended season.”

“We usually end in October, but last year we extended all the way till Christmas,” she said.

“So we are considering whether we could use this location with better visibility for that extended season.”
