SEQUIM — Another milestone has been reached by organizers working to speed up the renovation of Olympic Theatre Arts’ new building on North Sequim Avenue.
A celebration dinner Saturday night, marked by a Hawaiian theme, paid homage to Sequim’s two Rotary Clubs and their support through funding, labor and materials to transform the aging former Boys & Girls Club building into a community theater and event venue.
It also gave OTA executive director C.J. Augustine a forum to publicize an important step in the theater group’s overall plan: the $215,000 mortgage to the building was satisfied Sept. 30.
“That was a big deal,” Augustine said. “There is a lot of work to do yet, and a lot of money to raise.
“But we now own this building free and clear.”
The 24-year-old theater group’s dream to establish a robust home venue was launched in 2001, when members of its board of directors struck a deal to purchase the vintage building, once home to a church and then to the Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Club.
