SEQUIM — Two visiting “detectives” figured out the crime and won a trip to Victoria in the Sequim “Whodunnit Downtown” contest last week.
Friday’s mystery walkabout added some flair to the First Friday Art Walk downtown.
Using clues sprinkled around local businesses, Brittany and Joel Thomas of Longview deduced that the fictional killer of “Mayor Jilson White” in 1913 was “Long John Silver with a walking stick,” during the event sponsored by the Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber Merchants’ Group.
The pair eliminated four other suspects and four possible weapons by visiting nine Sequim businesses and collecting game cards.
The Thomases’ entry was selected randomly at a drawing at Sunshine Cafe, 145 W. Washington St., from among other contestants who also read the clues right.
The couple will receive a free stay at the Royal Scot Hotel in Victoria, as well as free round-trip transportation to Victoria on the MV Coho ferry.
