PORT ANGELES — An 85-year-old Sequim man was treated at Olympic Medical Center and discharged after the minivan he was driving on U.S. Highway 101 near the Elwha River bridge left the highway and hit a roadside sign post.
Carl J. Nelson was headed east on Highway 101 at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday when the 1996 Ford Windstar minivan he was driving went off the road to the right, the State Patrol said.
The van hit a state Department of Transportation sign post and then a dirt embankment before re-entering the road and coming to a stop, according to troopers.
The State Patrol listed the cause of the wreck as speed too fast for conditions.
It was unclear Saturday whether a citation had been issued.
Nelson, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to OMC.
He had been treated and released as of Friday, OMC spokesman Jeff Anderson said.
The wreck blocked eastbound traffic on Highway 101 for about half an hour, state Transportation officials said.
