SEQUIM — Neil Schouten was looking for a box to carry more aluminum cans he and his wife, Cecelia, were picking up during their walk along Woodcock Road on Friday.
He soon found a small box leaning against a tree off the side of the road like someone had intentionally placed it.
But this box wasn’t going to hold any aluminum cans.
“It felt heavy, and when I opened it I found this,” Schouten said Tuesday pointing to a light blue and earth-tone urn.
The urn is filled with what Schouten believes are human ashes.
There’s a sticker on the bottom of the urn. It’s partially worn by time, identifying the person as Harriette E.
Her last name starts with P or F, but it’s hard to read the writing on the piece of paper.
It says she was cremated on Feb. 6, 1988 — or is it 1986? The number “289” is on the piece of paper.
